Happy Thanksgiving

Once again I'm remiss. I get so sidetracked on Facebook and other things -- at my age, I really don't collect my thoughts together anymore -- it's more like gathering leaves with a lawn rake that only has 20% of its tines. Not good.

Anyway, I thought I'd let all my LJ readers in on a little secret. My book "2012: Timeline Apocalypse" has been doing pretty good but to add a little incentive, I'm having a Black Friday Sale for it.

For 12 hours - midnight to noon - on Friday, Nov 26 (the day right after Thanksgiving) I will be offering it at a fantastic discount -- $12.00 + $1.00 shipping. You can't even get it at that price on Amazon.com! And I give a signed copy, to boot!

Where to go? www.bobnailor.com/book_2012.php

On other fronts - I'm fighting to gain the word count on NaNoWriMo. I'm down about 5k right now but hope to have a major surge this weekend. It's almost like I was working or something. I'm retired and should have all the time I need to write -- NOT!!

Getting ready for the holiday and winter and looking forward to Mardi Gras and travel. Yes, I will be off to Jefferson, TX for Mardi Gras. I know it don't make sense but we have a great time down there to celebrate. BIG party, few people. Perfect!

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and please don't OD on tryptophan.

2012: Timeline Apocalypse

I can't believe it. The book has been getting orders every day and I'm all excited by that.

If you'd like an interesting read about the possibility on the Mayan calendar - this is the page turner for you!

Check it out at 2012: Timeline Apocalypse.

In an unrelated matter - I survived the severe storms that hit the area. We lost electricity about 3 mins before the finished. Lights out for over an hour - so far!

New Book Out

It has been quite some time since I have posted here -- anyone remember me?

Just thought I'd let everyone on LJ know that I finally got a book published -- a real touchy-feely book. My publisher is 23 House and actually approached me to publish my book. Cool. It is one I wrote in 2008 for NaNoWriMo and involves the Mayan calendar, the myths and legends.

So, if you'd like to know more about it; check out my NEW website...
www.bobnailor.com/book_2012.php

That is the direct link to the book; my home page is www.bobnailor.com

I have been really busy with all sorts of things -- like my mother deciding she wants to move into a nursing home and leaves me to empty her apt, sell her stuff, pay off her bills, etc. etc. AND I was trying to get this book done and the printer screwed up the cover colors so it took over 30 days to get it straightened out. My BIL has had surgery including having a kidney removed; my mother had a mastectomy and fell twice - one time for 30 hrs before anyone found out she'd fallen. And yes, she had one of the Life Alert buttons, but if you don't wear it, it don't work! Yes, my spring and summer -- this all started in February -- has been a total loss. No travel this year!!

Other than the above, my health is good and I look forward to writing my new novel for NaNoWriMo starting next week -- it takes place in Brazil, involves El Dorado and vampires. Should prove interesting to write.

Hope all of you have been doing well.

Until next I journal -- and hopefully sooner than the last time...

To End The Year and Start The New Year

I've posted my weekly writer's blog at The Writer's Haven
http://thewriterhaven.blogspot.com

This week I put something really special up... Thinking Inside The Box.

There is a 'survey' of sorts about two images and how you see them. Take a minute to review and add your vote. Let's see where it goes.

This is the basis for one of my conference sessions. It really makes the writer re-think what s/he is thinking.

Since the survey is only open until January 1st -- it is ending the old year and starting the new one. Whoo-hoo!

He Said / She Said

Okay, I've posted a blog about that little word "SAID" -- so come share your thoughts.

Contest

There is a contest at Click to Cook

Add a recipe to the site - use one of your favs -- and be entered to win a vintage cookbook. The more recipes you enter, the more chances you have of winning the cookbook.

This is a 1958 Good Housekeeping "category" cookbook. Remember those? Appetizer, Vegetables, Casseroles, Stews & Soups, Meats and the list went on.

Well, you could win one of them in the random drawing. So mosey over, add a recipe or two and take a chance.

YOU might just win a book that has one of your grandma's favorite recipes in it that she just hasn't been willing to share.

Afterall, what can you lose?

Oh... HELP!

I am working on my NaNo story and now need a 'heathen' holiday to celebrate. I haven't locked down the season of the novel, yet, but was aiming more at fall. The party will be at Stonehenge and very Druidish.

Since I haven't locked down the season, I am game for anything from spring to fall -- no winter, please. Dancing naked or in sheets just don't work when you're up to your ass in snow!

AND I don't want a BIG holiday -- like Halloween. I want a small, intimate group without a lot of tourists watching. A lesser known holiday.

I am requesting help only because I am tired of hunting for research. This story has taken so many twists and turns causing me to stop and look up a fact. I must say that writing sci-fi or fantasy is a lot easier -- fake it and continue on. With the style I'm using this year, facts are facts, ma'am.

I think I've spent more time researching than writing on the book.

Give me a break -- suggest something -- I can then go look it up.

I hate bysearching.
1) Research: re search -- look up something you know
2) Bysearch: bi search -- to suddenly find yourself off on a tanget or goose chase that becomes very quickly HOURS of lost time.

I'm waiting ... next chapter or two will need it.

HELP! HELP!! PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

NaNo Insanity

It has begun. NaNoWriMo and I'm in the throes of it.

So far, over 2600 words done and it only started at midnight ... mere hours ago. My first chapter went real fast from the notes I'd made up. The next couple of chapters should go pretty well, too, but after that; my notes are as well detailed. But that's never stopped me before.

Can't spend a lot of time journaling ... must get back to novel writing. zaapiel is beating the crap out of me. Tomorrow I should gain on him -- he has to work; I don't. [insert evil laughter here!]

If you'd like to read my first chapter... Here it is!

You can leave a comment at the bottom of the chapter to let me know what you think.

Dawn of the Dinosaurs?

Is it me? I haven't seen it yet but ...

Okay, I'm confused. I love the Ice Age movies with Ray Ramano (eventho I don't like him!) as the lovable woolly mammoth.

The latest movie; Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, well, it has me totally befuddled.

Dinosaurs were BEFORE mammoths. Trust me, Mr. T Rex and Woolly Mammoth didn't live on the same continent or at the same time.

I realize that it is just a 'cartoon' but still, kids are watching and learning. They will think that dinosaurs came after mammals. Uh, folks, mammals came last and are still here; that's us!

Sure there are reptiles (has-been dinosaurs) still existing today, but not in any manner that would prove as dangerous as t-rex, raptors, and their ilk.

Am I the only one who feels that cartoons should mimic real life a little closer? If we can 'live' with this concept as put forth by the movie, why not say that cars were before horse and buggies, television before radio, and that everyone flew a plane then learned to walk.

Yes, it is only a mere cartoon. It was just a mere comment my FIL made to one of my boys when they were very, very little. 'At night, we (the earth) are upside down' I know, a cute quip -- one that had me in school since my son was quite adamant that his grandpa told him that night was when we were upside down on earth. Granpa don't lie. Let me tell you, it took some doing on my behalf to get the concept across. The teacher was showing the globe revolving with a flashlight as the sun. Typical basic science class. After a lot of hullabaloo, I finally picked up the glove and turned it so the base was in my left hand and the top was in my right hand. I had the teacher hold the flashlight above. 'There, the people are upside down at night.' I had proved my FIL right AND the teacher. Talk about saving face.

I see no way out of the movie issue.

Of course, I haven't seen the movie, but the title concerns me. IF they indeed bring in dinosaurs, kids will be confused years later in science class.

I know, pick your battles... but...

Until next I journal...

Edit: Jut read a synopsis, they really need to change the title to something like 'Age Ice: The Lost World' to make it match the storyline. DOH!!
